Overview

What it
does

Routing Nodes are the planned intelligence layer for traffic decisions on the VPX Network. Each Routing Node is designed to maintain a continuously updated picture of route quality across the network - ASR, ACD, PDD, NER and MOS - and use it to make sub-second Least Cost Routing decisions that weight quality as a hard constraint before cost.

Unlike traditional LCR systems that work from static rate tables and scheduled quality audits, Routing Nodes receive quality data in real time from every connected carrier on the VPX Network. A route that degrades mid-call triggers an immediate quality score update, which the Routing Node applies to subsequent routing decisions within a single commit (~390ms). Quality can never lag reality by more than one commit.

Routing decisions are deterministic and verifiable on-chain. For any completed call, the routing path selected, the quality scores at decision time and the cost calculation are all recorded on VPX Protocol - providing an immutable audit trail that resolves disputes about routing decisions and enables transparent benchmarking between routes.

Node Process

How the node operates

01

Quality Data Ingestion

Routing Nodes continuously receive quality event data - ASR, ACD, PDD, NER - from connected carriers and Analytics Nodes. Each quality event updates the node's local routing quality state.

02

Route Request

A routing request arrives: destination number (E.164), traffic class, quality requirements and budget constraint. The Routing Node selects candidate routes from its quality-enriched routing table.

03

Quality-Weighted LCR

Candidate routes are scored using quality-weighted LCR. Routes failing the quality threshold are eliminated regardless of cost. Among qualifying routes, lowest cost wins.

04

On-Chain Recording

The routing decision - route selected, quality scores at decision time, cost, timestamp - is submitted as a signed transaction to VPX Protocol for immutable recording.

05

Feedback Loop

Call completion results (answer, duration, post-dial delay, quality score) are submitted back to the network as quality events. Routing Nodes update their quality state for the used route.

Capabilities

Engineered for network scale

01sub-second refresh

Live Quality Routing

Routing decisions based on live quality data updated every commit (~390ms). No stale rate tables. Routes that degrade affect routing decisions within one commit of the quality event.

02

Quality-Constrained LCR

Cost optimisation only activates within quality boundaries you define. ASR, ACD, PDD and NER thresholds are configurable per traffic class. Quality is a hard constraint, never a preference.

03

MNP-Aware Routing

Mobile Number Portability data is integrated into every routing decision. Eliminates off-net routing errors on ported numbers - the most common source of unexpected LCR cost overruns.

045 dimensions

Multi-Dimensional Scoring

Five quality dimensions: ASR, ACD, PDD, NER and MOS. Each dimension is weighted per traffic class (voice, fax, CLI-sensitive). Weights are configurable on-chain via smart contract.

05

Immutable Routing Audit

Every routing decision recorded on-chain with quality scores at decision time, route selected and cost calculation. Resolves disputes transparently. Enables benchmarking across routes.

06

Congestion Management

Routing Nodes detect congestion on individual routes from real-time CDR latency data and automatically steer traffic away from congested paths before call quality degrades.
